New parents miss lots of things about their pre-baby days, but one of the things they miss most is going to the movies. Movies for Mommies is a place where moms and stay-at-home-dads (SAHDs) can watch movies with their newborn film critics and not worry about a little crying here or there.
Movies for Mommies is Canadas original parent-infant movie experience, and is now available at the Ridge Theatre. Moms can network with each other, sample some of the Lower Mainland's best new baby products and take advantage of other goodies and giveaways that take place before the film (you'll have to show up to find out what they are!). Newborn film critics are invited to take advantage of our changing tables (BYOD - Bring Your Own Diapers).
Movies for Mommies has cleared a special area at the theatre to park your strollers. Most importantly, to protect little ears, the sound will be lowered.

Tuesdays at 1:30 pm (doorsat 1 pm)
For only $7.50, less than the cost of two lattes, you can rediscover your love of going to the movies. No charge for newborn film critics.

YES you will hear the film perfectly! The movie tends to lull babies to sleep, and most infants fuss a little or cry for a few moments but then generally settle down.

Movies for Mommies recommend that moms with infants from 0-10 months come to the show, but we leave it to each mom's discretion. The movies are for the grown-ups to enjoy, and babies wont be asked to produce identification at the door. However, if your baby has reached the stage where he or she is squirming or moving around, you won't get the most out of the Movies 4 Mommies experience.
Movies for Mommies certainly won't turn anyone away, but the movies we screen are for adults these aren't kids films. If you feel your toddler would sit through the movie, you can bring him or her along. You can also use the Ridges crying room, the small, enclosed balcony where you can hear the movie but the audience cant hear you. The crying room will be reserved for parents with toddlers, but remember, the crying room is darkened too. Our suggestion: If you have a group of friends with kids then form a rotating weekly toddler- sitting schedule so the rest of you can come to the movie.
If your baby cries, you're among sympathetic friends! Chances are your baby will eventually fall asleep in the darkened theatre. If he or she starts to cry effusively, we suggest you step out into the lobby for a few minutes, but then you're a mom. You'll know what to do.
